Aug 16 marks the one year countdown to the 2nd Asian Youths Games and two to the 2nd Youth Olympic Games, both of which will be held in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu province.
Adhering to a concept of thrift, the two sports events are going to share the same set of venues.
The YOG will use 34 venues, 30 of which have existing ones. The additional four venues are for games of BMX cycling, hockey, beach volleyball and American football. And the venues of BMX cycling and beach volleyball will be temporary ones and will be demolished following the finish of the events.
Infrastructure in 25 of those existing venues will reach the standard after maintaining work, whereas the other five will have to build temporary facilities.
The Nanjing YOG Sports Park, which houses all of the four new venues, adopts temporary engineering projects for all the components that need to be renovated or demolished after the Game. It has 3000-plus fixed stands, almost half of the temporary ones, which alone will save 20 million yuan (over $3 million).
